University professor and archaeologist Grigore Tocilescu (1850-1909) published the first scientific work referring to the Roman triumphal monument at Adamclisi, a work printed in several editions. The present example is part of the elegant edition published in Vienna in 1895, which includes numerous heliogravures reproducing the metopes, friezes and details of the ensemble erected by the Romans to mark the victory of Emperor Trajan against the Daco-Getians in 106-109. The copy is in a good state of preservation and is accompanied by an original document with the letterhead of the Viennese publishing house and the holographic signature of the publisher. On the counterpage of the main cover, in the upper left corner, there is a lithographed ex-libris of Dinu Cesianu, whose house, owned along with his brothers and his mother, on Calea Victoriei in Bucharest today houses one of the headquarters of the Bucharest City Museum. The binding is the original one from the publisher.
