The monarch is depicted while standing, from a left side semi-profile position, looking ahead; he wears a black uniform; the right hand with a clenched fist on a book placed on a table; next to the book, there is the feathered bicorne; background containing panels decorated with wands, stuccos and a curtain on the right side. The portrait's frame has a locket on each corner, each of them bearing an inscription: upper left: V. Alecsandri; upper right: M. Cogălniceanu; lower left: Bishop Melchisedek; lower right: Constantin Negri. Upper middle part, a white dove in the blue sky. The lithograph reproduces one of the monarch's photos, taken by Carol Popp de Szathmari, which served him as a model for the official portrait, lithographed in 1851. Lithographed inscriptions under the frame, left side: All rights reserved T. Severin 1909; right side: Al.
