The monarch is depicted while standing, from a left side semi-profile position, looking ahead; he wears a black uniform; the right hand with a clenched fist on a book placed on a table; next to the book, there is the feathered bicorne; background containing panels decorated with wands, stuccos and a curtain on the right side. The portrait's frame has a locket on each corner, each of them bearing an inscription: upper left: V. Alecsandri; upper right: M. Cogălniceanu; lower left: Bishop Melchisedek; lower right: Constantin Negri. Upper middle part, a white dove in the blue sky. The lithograph reproduces one of the monarch's photos, taken by Carol Popp de Szathmari, which served him as a model for the official portrait, lithographed in 1851. Lithographed inscriptions under the frame, left side: All rights reserved T. Severin 1909; right side: Al. Resmeriţă teacher-painter; middle: As Cuza was being elected in Iaşi, the crowd expecting the result kept/ in mind that a dove kept flying around and sat on the frontispiece of the Administrative Palace. (v. Istoria). Lithographed inscription, placed in a small frame under the portrait: ALECSANDRU IOAN CUZA / 1859-1866 / By his election as a Prince on the 5th and 24to of January 1859, the Union was made [...].. The Lady is depicted while standing, from a right side semi-profile, looking ahead; the left hand on a closed book placed on a table with sculpted legs; on the left side of the background, one can see a detail from the oval back of a throne chair, as well as a curtain. The portrait's frame has an oval locket on each of the four corners, two of them bearing the inscription: Azilul Elena Doamna (Lady Elena Asylum); and the other two: Castelul din Ruginoasa (Ruginoasa Castle). Upper middle part, a white dove flying in the blue sky. The chromolithograph had as a model the lithograph, or one of the photos taken by Carol Popp de Szathmari for the Lady's 1851 official portrait. Inscriptions lithographed under the frame, left side: Turnu-Severin 1909.; right side: Al. Resmeriţă, teacher-painter; in a small frame under the portrait, middle part: LADY ELENA CUZA / 1859-1909 /She was a witness of the great deeds accomplished during Her husband's reign [...].
