oil on canvas

In childhood, Ștefan Constantinescu stands out as a draftsman with real potential, so he will join as an apprentice in the workshop of icon painter Gheorghe Serafim. He will evolve as a remarkable muralist and, attracted by monumental art, will create a long series of frescoes and mosaics. As a teacher, he taught mural painting to his students at the University of Fine Arts in Bucharest. His study trips extended beyond borders, the artist visiting countries such as France, Italy, Germany or Hungary. The results of these expeditions will culminate in numerous personal painting, drawing, and graphics exhibitions, both domestically and abroad. Many of his works will focus on nature. In landscapes as well as in still life, Ștefan Constantinescu will always take care of the most faithful reproduction of the natural setting. This time, neither the cityscapes through which he passes, nor the faces and traditional harbors challenge the artist, but the intertwining of generously positioned elements will be the subject of the work. Short strokes, carefully placed, describe the frame filled with traditional vessels and towels. Among these, subtly inserted, flower pots, apples, a bottle of wine or a small toy in the right corner of the work make an appearance. Still life in the artist's work becomes more than an exercise: a reflection of reality and a pretext for shaping his brushes along the canvas.
