In his work, the artist primarily appeals to the subconscious and sharply ignores logical interferences. The mise-en-scene proposed by the artist becomes, par excellence, a fusion of visual dramas that defy the laws of nature. Mazilu compresses the human silhouette to abstraction and focuses his attention on the faces of his characters, which he considers one of the most expressive parts of the body, alongside hands and feet. We will notice that in many of his works the facial features attributed to the protagonists are very expressive. The nose is often very prominent and done in an eloquent manner. The entire composition revolves around the characters, which are never reproductions of existing beings, but are detailed constructions starting from the artist's imagination. The space and atmosphere are deciphered only at the end, in close concordance with the partially humanized puppet-characters. Mazilu becomes a virtuoso of the aesthetics of ugliness and creates true pictorial metaphors of the fantastic. The world in his canvases is utopian and takes on the valences of an imaginary realm and a reality diametrically opposed to the already known. The artist builds the story of his works while he paints. He becomes a puppet master in a puppet theater and concentrates his plastic discourse of an astonishing expressive force around the chimeras of the composition.
