Between 1882 and 1888 he studied with professors Theodor Aman, Gheorghe Tattarescu and then in Paris, at the Julian Academy. The studies conducted in Paris influenced him and helped him move towards large-scale academic painting, particularly tackling mythological compositions, but also small artworks, on various artistic themes. He worked extensively using the academic and impressionist technique, under the influence of painters Gheorghe Tattarescu and Nicolae Grigorescu. The most favorite themes within his artistic creation are directed to mythological subjects, representations of servitude and of characters and rural life in the country. This work can be placed around the 1900s and represents a favorite theme of the artist, that of rural life and the simple man in the country. Also, within this work, the artist manages to capture in a discreet but vibrant way, with soft brushes and warm colors, the moment of pure emotion of portraying a young peasant girl who is in a natural setting, in a traditional Romanian costume with floral motifs and who delicately holds a spindle in her hand. The work becomes a symbol of the close connection between man and earth, where the simple gesture carries the burden of life and tradition. Thus, in many works with this theme, the artist prefers the portrayed figure to be in the center of the composition and to be surrounded by a natural setting, wanting to put as much emphasis on the rural atmosphere in the country, the occupations or the simple character of the characters, where a few examples in this sense are: ,,Peasant Girl”, ,,Muse”, ,,The Florist” or ,,Nude in Nature”.
