Rolex Sea-Dweller Great White wristwatch, men, reference 1665, automatic movement, calibre 1570. Black dial, uni-directional rotating bezel, luminescent indices and date register at the 3 o'clock. Original bracelet and deployant type closure system. In 1977, after ten years of Double Red, Rolex introduced a new dial for Sea-Dweller, which is nowadays known under the name "Great White". This Sea-Dweller had still been bearing the reference 1665 like its predecessor. However, it has been through a few changes. First, Rolex omitted to display "Submariner 2000" signature on the dial, thus stating the independence of this model from the brand Submariner. Second, the most visible change made was the writing on the dial, which was now entirely white, hence its nickname "Great White". Furthermore, the engraving Rolex on the back of the exterior case was moved from the centre to the internal circumference, stating that this wristwatch has the Rolex gas exhaustion valve registered as proprietary.
