209. Flag, Pioneers’ Organization in Romania, 1970s

The Pioneers’ Organization was officially established in 1949 and functioned until the Revolution of December 1989 as a form of pupil indoctrination and control. Organized after the Soviet model, it was subordinated to the Communist Youth Union until 1966, after which it became autonomous. The pioneers were pupils of primary and secondary schools, without exception. They had uniforms, they were divided into groups and detachments, had a hierarchy and numerous insignia (badges, laces, aiguillettes, etc.). A detachment consisted of the pupils of a class, and a unit represented the totality of pioneers in a school. Each unit had such a flag. On one side of it we note the silk emblem of the organization, and on the other side the slogan of the organization, "Ever Forward!". The flag is sewn on a synthetic red cloth, the colour of the Romanian Communist Party.
