Pallady was undoubtedly in love with Paris, and the Seine and its banks offered the figurative support for a true declaration of love that the artist dedicated to the capital of the arts. For nearly 50 years, Pallady travelled or lived in the French capital, where, attracted by the specificity and picturesque of a few certain places, he painted and drew, particularly the quays of the Seine and views from the window of his workshop ("Place Dauphine," both from the window and on the quays, "Pont Neuf" or "Montebello Quay"). Probably as early as 1889, while working in Aman-Jean's workshop, he attempted the first paintings of Paris. Later, we know he was completely absorbed by the chic neighbourhood in which he would live for the rest of the period spent in Pairs. His attraction for city landscapes and especially for the Parisian ones, given that Bucharest appears only in his drawings and watercolour paintings, was translated into oil paintings in which Pallady is clearly influenced by the local features. The patina of the buildings, the grey atmosphere of Paris, the charm of the misty, wet days on the banks of the Seine manipulated the imagination of the artist. The view captures the Pont des Arts painted by Theodor Pallady from Pont Neuf, depicting the quay of Seine to the west of Paris. As a matter of fact, the chosen spot is no accident, as Pallady lived a few hundred meters away, in 12 Place Dauphine. The dock in the foreground seems to be one of those used by the National School of Swimming, the Henri IV Baths, which had its nautical headquarters near Pont Neuf.
