Groschen coined by Petru II of Moldavia, ruler of Moldavia between 1375 and 1392, the first Moldavian Voivode to coin a currency. It is assumed, on quite solid grounds, that the shield on the reverse side is the personal coat of arms of the ruling family. If this assumption is true, one must notice that this coat of arms did not have a fixed form, as the number of lilies in the background varied noticeably, without any scientifically accepted heraldic explanation. The number of lily flowers on the coins of Petru II of Moldavia varies from one to seven, and this specific coin has seven. The variation continues on his successors' coins as well.
