The company was founded in 1878 at the initiative of students from the Matei Basarab high school in Bucharest, in order to support young talented people. The obverse of the jubilee medal depicts the Society Palace, built between 1924 and 1935 according to the plans of the architect Virginia Andreescu Haret. On the reverse, the central plane is dominated by an allegorical construction around a female figure symbolising the nation, and in the distant plane, on the left, is the statue of Michael the Brave.
