5PC. Help vulnerable young people not to lose themselves
Estimate
EUR 162.000 - 0
Session

Description
It is terribly difficult to go through life alone. Young people who do not have their family by their side are on their own far too early, and for this a sustained training is needed, which starts from the moment they enter the protection system. At 18 years or when they finish their studies, their lives depend on a job, a place to stay, how they manage to activate all their resources. Otherwise, they are lost. The average age at which young people leave special protection services is 19,8 years, compared to 28,1 years for children in families. Through this project, we support 40 teenagers and young people (aged 13 to 24) for 3 years to successfully integrate into the community and get a good start in independent life. The budget will be directed towards training/qualification courses and materials, foreign language courses, transport, trainings, internships, personal development activities, necessary equipment and materials, housing expenses for young people, medical services, camps. Quality education and training is the key to a successful future and the only chance for vulnerable children. In SOS programs, preparation for independent living is done step by step, from the moment children enter the SOS community. The children receive a family, they grow up with their siblings, with Mother SOS, who is their benchmark for life. The children have mentors, they receive psychological counseling, their passions are encouraged. At the same time, families in vulnerable communities are supported to stay together and meet the needs of children. In many vulnerable families there are also teenagers and young people who have different support needs and who need separate support to integrate into the labor market. Vocational counseling and job mediation services are lacking in rural areas and insufficient in urban areas. The mission of SOS Children's Villages Romania association is to provide a loving family to children who are left without parental care and to support and protect those who are at risk of losing it. In the almost 30 years of activity in Romania, SOS Children's Villages has run alternative care programs for children (SOS Villages, Youth Communities), family strengthening (Counseling and support centers for children and parents, Day Centre) , educational, as well as a series of projects for young people at risk both from the protection system and from rural areas or vulnerable families. This year, more than 850 children and young people are directly supported by SOS Children's Villages, of which 150 grow up in SOS Villages, and 850 children are supported to stay in their family and not experience the trauma of separation.
