Nicolae Dărăscu's attraction for the marine landscape was directly linked to his interest for the impressionist style, defining his career. Even since the beginning of his career, Dărăscu showed interested in those lessons about impressionism and neo-impressionism from Monet's canvases, but especially from the works of Signac or Seurat. Therefore, throughout the time spent in the gulfs around Saint-Tropez or Grimaud, between 1908 and 1913/1914, Dărăscu's composition made progress, one brush stroke after another, towards a post-impressionist creation of an accomplished colour technician. Through the voluptuousness of (neo)impressionist painting, coordinated also by the attraction for the watery environment, and characterised by the chromatic divisionism, the painter would complete a cycle of extremely individualised marine landscapes.
