History Auction #558/2024 #558
On the ground floor of the Lego Museum in the center of Berlin is a large room where children can freely assemble Lego pieces without following a specific scheme. Parents stand in awe outside the hall after paying a hefty price for entry. The financial effort is worth making because the joy of the little ones, immersed simply in the challenge of the free choice of the game, is more important. We can liken the present auction to a Lego set, one without the board that accompanies the respective boxes we buy at the store and which leaves us without a real joy of discovery. Coins, bibliophile books, documents and photographs, military artefacts, maps and posters, objects that have long had an everyday utility, all represent pieces of a past that we can recompose, value, study, collect and save from destruction.
