Iconographic and stylistic identification elements: The icon is a festal one and was part of the iconostasis of a church in Maramureș, dateable to the late eighteenth century. Against a background of religious architecture, depicted in a schematic design, the well-known scene unfolds: in the center of the composition is the altar table with the two turtle doves; to the left, the Virgin Mary, standing, followed by Saint Joseph, places the Infant Jesus onto the altar table, in the arms of Saint Simeon, depicted standing to the right of the composition, with the Prophetess Anna behind him. An emphasized graphic element is noticeable both in the arrangement of the scene and in the creation of the faces and the drapery of the robes. The color scheme is dominated by ochre, enlivened by variations of blue, green, and red. A broad frame, painted with red ochre, surrounds the composition of the scene. Technical identification elements: The icon is painted on a single wooden panel, with no crossbars on the verso. Conclusions: The painting of the festal icon falls, both in composition and execution, within the tradition of the eighteenth-century Maramureș school, following the particularities acquired by its evolution towards the end of this century (A.D.).
