Identification elements of an iconographic and stylistic order: The imperial icon of Saint Nicholas is paired with the icon of Saint Paraschiva, both being part of the same iconostasis, from the register of imperial icons. They are painted by the same unknown author, in the same style of transition towards easel painting. Saint Nicholas is depicted below the waist, slightly turned to his left. He wears a raspberry-red felon and an olive omophor; he’s blessing with the right hand, while his veiled left hand supports the Gospel. Above, in the corners of the icon, are depicted Jesus with the Gospel and the Mother of God with the omophor, alluding to the Council of Nicaea (325). Identification elements of a technical order: The support of the painting consists of two wooden panels, reinforced at the back with two semi-buried cross bars. Conclusions: The icon of Saint Nicholas is paired with the icon of Saint Paraschiva, their painting being characteristic of the transition phase from traditional painting to Western easel painting (A.D.).
